Laugh! It’s Good For you! … the “NATIONAL COMEDY CENTER”

With so much tension in today’s world … “Laugh a little … It’s good for you! It’s what the Doctor ordered!” Do you remember being a kid and watching old black and white TV shows like, The Three Stooges, Our Gang, The Bowery Boys … or maybe sitcoms like … The Dick Van Dyke Show, Sanford and Son, Archie Bunker, Seinfeld, Married With Children …. or great variety shows like … Ed Sullivan, Jackie Gleason, Johnny Carson or even Saturday Night Live? Do you remember the joy these classics brought to you? Are these moments locked into your memory banks? Would you like to go back to those times? Well, I just did this past week … thanks to John and Rachael from “Ya Jagoff” and the Pittsburgh Magazine. I was invited to take a trip back in time with a short Bus ride to the “NATIONAL COMEDY CENTER” in Jamestown, New York! Since I have been involved in museums most of my life, Johnny Angels Ginchy Stuff and Museum, the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, the Rock and Roll Musem, the Heinz Center, just to mention a few … but I was just blown away and totally memorized by my current trek to the Comedy Center! You owe it to yourself and to your seldom used Funny Bone! Knowing not what to expect I went expecting some highlights and memories of funny stuff from days gone by. Well, it was … but so much more! I thought some exhibits, some funny old film clips, some funny names from the past … yep, there was. But I wasn’t expecting interactive touch screens, comedy Karaoke, flipping through old scripts, an electronic who’s who of comedy grid that connects other comics who were influenced, history of comedy over the years, competing with family and friends trying to make each other laugh … as I mentioned earlier …It’s good for you! If I were to make a Mt. Rushmore of favorite comedians of my lifetime there would be four for sure … Richard Pryor, Geroge Carlin, Johnny Carson and of course Lucille Ball, so you can only imagine the time I spent on these exhibits. Speaking of Lucy, while visiting the National Comedy Museum you can also stop at the “Lucy Desi Museum” in the same neighborhood! If you would like to get more information about this fantastic, fun get away, go to … ComedyCenter.org … and … LucyDesi.com … like it says in their brochure … “It’s Not Just a Museum, It’s an Experience!”
