It’s just one of those classic songs that never get old and never get tired of … I’m talkin’ about … “Since I Don’t Have You!”. A song written by Joe Rock with Jimmy Beaumont. The lyrics were jotted down on an old envelop and soon recorded by the Skyliner’s, it’s a Pittsburgh Classic, it became one of the greatest DooWop, Rock n’ Roll ballads of all time. I/we have many memories of this song and one that I cherish. Let’s travel back to the days when I was running the Emerald Roon Theater, which is now the Roxian Theater in McKees Rocks. We had a concert series called Rock n’ Roldies Showcase. One of my favorite shows had my old friend, Mr. Eddie Holman, headlining the show. Another one of my old friends was a special guest that evening … the one and only … Jimmy Beaumont of the Skyliners. Before the show the three of us were reminiscing and telling stories and I mentioned the fact that Eddie recorded Jimmy’s song …”Since I Don’t Have You” for ABC Records … that’s when the mutual admiration society took center stage of the conversation. Eddie began talking about the first time he heard the song, and Jimmy began talking about Eddie’s incredible voice … I was like a sponge absorbing all the information. I took the picture of Jimmy and Eddie and later had both of them autograph it for my archives. Later that evening we, Johnny Angel and the Halo’s were backing up Eddie for his performance and of course he sang and dedicated the song “Since I Don’t Have You” to Jimmy Beaumont. I remember thinking to myself, I sang background for both of these treasured music Icons … on stage with Eddie and at my restaurant with Jimmy and my heart began to smile! There are so many songs that make up the soundtrack of my life, but there is just something about that particular song that grabs my heartstrings … “Since I Don’t Have You” … sung by Jimmy Beaumont and Eddie Holman …WOW!
